How to use the crypto profit calculator
- Choose whether you know the amount you invested or the number of coins you bought, and enter it.
- Enter the price you bought at and the price you sold at (or want to sell at).
- Enter the buy and sell fee your exchange charged, as a percent of the trade.
- Optionally enter how many days you held the coins to see the annualized return.
- Read the profit, ROI and break-even sell price; open Show the math to see every step.
Crypto profit formula
Fees are a percent of each trade: the buy fee is added to what you pay, the sell fee comes out of what you receive.
- Coins bought = investment / (buy price × (1 + buy fee))
- Total cost = coins × buy price × (1 + buy fee)
- Proceeds = coins × sell price × (1 − sell fee)
- Profit = proceeds − total cost
- ROI = profit / total cost
- Break-even sell price = buy price × (1 + buy fee) / (1 − sell fee)
When you enter the amount invested, the fee is inside that amount: $1,000 invested means $1,000 left your account, not $1,000 of coins plus a fee on top. Prices can be in any currency; the results are in the same one.
Worked example: $1,000 of Bitcoin
You invest $1,000 in BTC at $60,000 and sell at $90,000, paying 0.1% on each trade:
- Coins bought = 1,000 / (60,000 × 1.001) = 0.01665002 BTC
- Sale value = 0.01665002 × 90,000 = $1,498.50
- Sell fee = $1,498.50 × 0.1% = $1.50
- Proceeds = $1,498.50 − $1.50 = $1,497.00
- Profit = $1,497.00 − $1,000 = +$497.00, ROI 49.70%
- Break-even sell price = 60,000 × 1.001 / 0.999 = $60,120.12
The price rose 50% but the return is 49.70%: the two fees took $2.50 of it. At app-style fees of 1.5% each way the same trade returns about 45.6%.

How do I calculate profit on a crypto trade?
Multiply the coins you bought by the sell price and subtract the sell fee: that is what comes back. Subtract what you paid, buy fee included. If you invested $1,000 in Bitcoin at $60,000 with a 0.1% fee and sold at $90,000 with a 0.1% fee, you bought 0.01665 BTC, got back $1,497.00 and made $497.00, a 49.7% return.
Is this the same as the Bitcoin profit calculator?
Yes. Enter BTC as the coin and its buy and sell price; the math is the same for any coin you buy and sell outright, from Bitcoin and Ethereum to a token worth a fraction of a cent.
How do fees change my crypto profit?
You pay a fee when you buy and again when you sell, so the price has to rise just to get your money back. With 0.1% each way the break-even is about 0.2% above your buy price; with the 1.5% an instant-buy app often charges each way, it is about 3% above. The calculator shows that break-even sell price directly.
What is the break-even sell price?
The price at which selling returns exactly what you paid, after both fees: buy price × (1 + buy fee) / (1 − sell fee). It does not depend on how much you bought.
Does this work for futures or leveraged trades?
No, this is for coins you buy and sell outright (spot). A leveraged perpetual futures position has margin, a liquidation price and funding payments; use the Crypto Futures PnL Calculator for that.
What does annualized return mean here?
If you enter how long you held the coins, the calculator compounds your return over a 365-day year: (money back / money in) to the power of 365 / days, minus 1. It lets you compare a 3-month trade with a 2-year one. It is shown only for a hold of 30 days or more: compounding a move of a few days over a year turns a quick double into a meaningless astronomical figure.
