Position sizing for Binance traders

With 125× available on Binance, it is tempting to use high leverage and take large positions. But position size should be determined by risk tolerance, not leverage. The risk-based sizing formula:

  • Max loss = accountBalance × riskPercent%
  • Stop distance = |entry − stop| / entry
  • Position size = maxLoss / stopDistance

This formula ensures that if your stop loss triggers, you lose exactly your planned risk percentage, regardless of what leverage you use. On Binance, set your stop loss order immediately after opening a position to enforce the limit automatically.

Binance fee structure

Binance charges maker fee 0.02% and taker fee 0.05% on perpetual futures. Maximum available leverage is 125×. This calculator pre-fills these defaults so you get accurate results without needing to look up the fee schedule. If you are on a VIP tier with discounted fees, adjust the fee fields accordingly.

Maker orders (limit orders that add liquidity) cost less than taker orders (market orders that remove liquidity). On Binance, using limit orders for both entry and exit can reduce your total fee cost significantly compared to market orders.

Margin mode: you choose Isolated or Cross margin per symbol before opening any position - the mode can’t be changed while orders or a position on that symbol are open. See Binance's official docs →

FAQ
Q.01

How do I calculate position size from risk?

Position size = max loss / loss per unit. Loss per unit = |entry − stop| + fees. This ensures your worst-case loss never exceeds your limit.

Q.02

What is the 1–2% rule?

Risk no more than 1–2% of your account per trade. If your account is $10,000 and you risk 1%, your max loss per trade is $100.

Q.03

What assumptions and edge cases does this calculator use?

Entry price, stop loss and the amount you risk must be above zero, leverage is above zero (default 1), and fees are fractions from 0 to 0.05. A combination of fees and prices that leaves no risk per unit is refused. Not covered: slippage past the stop, funding, your exchange lot size rounding and whether you have the margin.

Q.04

What are Binance perpetual futures fees?

Binance charges maker fee 0.02% and taker fee 0.05%. Maximum leverage is 125×. This calculator uses these defaults but you can adjust them for your actual rate tier.

Q.05

Is this calculator specific to Binance?

Yes, the exchange is pre-selected to Binance with live prices pulled from their API. You can switch to any other supported exchange using the instrument selector.
